"According to the Mayo Clinic, tinnitus can lead to stress and even depression, so it is vitally important to combat this. Breathing exercises are a great way to relax and let go of the pressures and stresses of life, while offering mindfulness and a number of benefits.
All you need is 10 minutes to yourself, somewhere quiet and no distractions to be able to do these simple breathing exercises.
Sama Vritti - Equal Breathing:
Inhale through your nose for a count of four, then exhale for a count of four out of your nose. It is that simple, continue this process for about ten minutes, but be sure to pause if you feel dizzy or lightheaded.
If this becomes too easy for you or you wish to push yourself, then inhale to the count of six or eight.
Nadi Shodhana - Alternative nostril breathing:
Sitting comfortably, preferably in a typical meditation pose with your legs crossed, hold your right thumb over your right nostril and inhale deeply through your left.
At the peak of inhalation, (when you cannot breath in anymore) close your left nostril with your thumb and exhale through the right. Continue in this pattern, inhaling through the right nostril and holding your left closed, then exhale through your left.
The Nadi Shodhana is the perfect exercise for focusing and energising yourself.
Abdominal Breathing Technique:
Hold one hand to your chest and the other on your belly whilst you take in a deep breath through the nose, ensuring that your diaphragm expands; you can tell by a slight inflating in your lungs under your ribcage.
Aim for six to ten deep, slow breaths per minute for ten minutes each day for six-eight weeks. This abdominal breathing technique will not just relax you, but can also reduce your blood pressure and heart rate."
