How To Spot Your Hearing Is Getting Worse

Friday, July 8th 2016 12:09pm

Hello and welcome to another blog post at Lisburn Hearing Centre. Today we are looking at how hearing loss can creep up on you without you noticing it, and how to look for signs that may show that your hearing is getting worse and you need to get checked out.

Here are a few things you should ask yourself to give you a clue as to how your hearing is, if you answer yes to one or more of the following it could mean your hearing is impaired:
  • When you are in a conversation with someone do you often have to ask them to repeat themselves, or you keep missing certain words?
  • When people are speaking to you do you get the feeling they are mumbling or speaking to you too softly and you need them to speak up?
  • Can long conversations make you feel tired and a bit agitated as it has become a bit of a chore to concentrate so hard on keeping up with the other person?
  • If you are with a medium to large group of people do you find it difficult keeping up with all the conversations, and if there is any background noise does it make it even harder to tell what people are saying to you?
  • Do you often miss the phone ringing or someone knocking at the door, or when someone speaks to you from another room or with their back turned can you not hear what they are saying?
  • Is it getting increasingly difficult to carry on a telephone conversation with someone?
  • Are you forever turning up the television and radio so you can hear it properly?

If you see yourself in any of the above scenarios I would suggest that you contact us here at the Lisburn Hearing Centre and book yourself in for a hearing test. If you do have an issue with your hearing it is best to get to the bottom of the problem as soon as possible.

You can either ring us during our opening hours on 028 9264 0302 or alternatively you can fill in the form on the website home page.
